  • Course Description: A review of the parameters of Accessibility for vertical height changes in & outside of California. We will look in depth at issues related to curb transitions, pedestrian ramps, stairs, handrails, and elevators. A combination of architectural details and codes will be reviewed so you will gain a more comprehensive understanding of this specific topic.
  • InstructorJanis Kent, AIA, CASp, Stepping Thru Accessibility - Janis Kent, AIA CASp is a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) and a licensed California Architect and has been involved in the world of Accessibility since the mid-1980's. In addition to having managed a variety of architectural projects, she has surveyed buildings for accessibility compliance and provided quality control for existing facilities throughout the country. Recently she authored a book which is a compilation of architectural details on Accessibility combining ADA with CBC. She has been asked to speak on Accessibility at a variety of venues from the Dwell Mobius conventions in LA, the National AIA Convention in New Orleans, to a number of local AIA Chapters, and the State Chapter of CCAIA has recorded one of her seminars. She also has been invited to speak at several business associations. Ms. Kent is the Founding President of the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI), serves on the Cerritos College Architectural Advisory committee, is on the Board of Directors for the AIA-Long Beach/South Bay chapter, and on the aecKnowledge Editorial Committee. She is also an invited Subject Matter Expert for the State DSA-AB Access Committee. Janis received her M.Arch from the University of California, LA and is currently the principal of Stepping Thru Accessibility in Long Beach California.
